SUBCLASS 482 SKILL IN DEMAND VISA

The Skills in Demand (SID) Visa (Subclass 482), introduced on December 7, 2024, has replaced the previous Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa. This visa allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled overseas workers to address labor shortages. It offers a temporary stay of up to four years, with a pathway to permanent residency. The SID visa comprises three streams:

  1. Specialist Skills Stream: Designed for highly skilled professionals (excluding trades, machinery operators, and laborers) with a minimum annual salary of AUD 135,000. This stream features expedited processing times of approximately seven days.
  2. Core Skills Stream: Targets skilled workers in occupations listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), requiring a minimum annual salary of AUD 73,150
  3. Labour Agreement Stream: For workers nominated by employers who have a labor agreement with the Australian government.

A significant change with the SID visa is the reduction in required work experience from two years to one year. Additionally, visa holders benefit from increased job flexibility, including a 180-day period to find a new sponsor if their employment ends, without resetting the time accumulated towards permanent residency eligibility.
